I know what you are thinking… a savory snack during the holidays – where are the sweets??
Trust me, I love a good sweet snack or dessert but here me out, savory crunchy snack mixes cannot to beat. Plus, football is in season and we love a good shareable appetizer or picky recipe. For me, when it comes to watching football (or any game) I am the person who likes to pick around and have a little bit of everything. So why not put all of it together? BINGO! That’s why this vegan and gluten free savory snack mix is pure gold for me. It has a little bit of everything!
SO… what will you need to make this vegan and gluten free savory snack mix?
- Barbara’s Puffins or Rice Chex
- Almonds or Cashews
- Love Corn Snacks (see substitutions)
- Peanuts
- Gluten Free Pretzels
- Pumpkin Seeds
- Olive Oil
- Coconut Aminos or Soy Sauce
- Hot Sauce
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Ground Mustard
- Dried Rosemary
- Salt and pepper!
Does this make a lot?
One of the things I love about this recipe is that it makes a bunch! With this recipe, I get more than enough for a week’s worth of afternoon snacks so it can easily be brought to a small get together. However if you are feeding a larger crowd, I may recommend to double the recipe. Plus if you have any leftover (which you definitely will not), this mix can be stored in an air-tight container for 1-2 months!
Can I make any substitutions or add more ingredients?
- Barbara’s Puffins: you can replace this 1:1 with any plain or savory cereal. Rice Chex would be very comparable option
- Peanuts, Almonds and Cashews: if you are allergic to nuts, go ahead and leave out and replace with another savory snack item as long as the quantity remains the same! Additionally, I used plain nuts for this recipe, but you can use already salted or seasoned.
- Love Corn Snacks: I had these on hand and they are addictingly good. If you do not have them on hand, feel free to replace with another corn snack, or crunchy item like Cheez-its. There is only a 1/3 of a cup in this recipe so I would stick to anything that is Cheez-it size or smaller. You could also just add an additional amount of cereal!
- Olive Oil: melted coconut oil, butter or ghee
- Ground Mustard: you can use liquid mustard 1:1 as a replacement or leave out completely.
