I originally made this healthy general tso’s chicken with tofu and have since made it with chicken and beef as well. It is the perfect sauce to whisk together for when that takeout craving hits. Lately with the Covid-19 procedures, we have not been taking out on Friday’s like before. And quite honestly, that takeout craving has been more prominent during the hectic work week than just on Friday and Saturday night. Luckily, this recipe uses basic ingredients and comes together in less than 15 minutes.
While fulling cooking rice will always be the best, we have been using the boil-in-a-bag white rice during the week to cut back on the time it takes to make dinner. And if anyone knows me, they know I am all about making delicious, yet quick dinners. The “quick to cook rice” has honestly been a lifesaver!
SO… what do you need to make this dish?
- Coconut Aminos: I love using this has a substitute for soy sauce, but you could easily use that or tamari sauce
- Water
- Rice Vinegar: I have also tested with apple cider vinegar and works just as well. I have not tested any other type of vinegar
- Ketchup
- Coconut Sugar: can replace with brown sugar – any other granular sugar would work but may result in a slightly different taste
- Cornstarch: can substitute tapioca starch. I have not used any other flours as a thickening agent but you would most likely need a larger quantity if attempting to substitute
- optional spices
- sesame seeds

Notes
- To make this paleo, use a ketchup, such as this, that is complaint and tapioca starch instead of cornstarch
